Men’s Fashion Trends

By far the biggest trend in men’s fashion for the warmer months this year will be the classic all American look, which is fantastic for a number of different reasons. Firstly, this look is easy to create and easy to wear, meaning that any man should be able to pull it off. Secondly, this look is made up of a number of key items that can be mixed, matched and will look great with pretty much everything you already have in your wardrobe.

One of the key items contributing to this Americana look is the plaid shirt. Unlike the traditional lumberjack look, this look mixes relaxed materials with a slim fit, so avoid chunky wood-chopping shirts and instead opt for thinner plaid shirts that fit snugly. Also avoid the mid-90s grunge look by making sure you wear your shirt done up to the neck – you can even wear it with a slim plain tie to smarten it up even further. The all American look has also spawned a new twist on the 1950s baseball jacket. No longer bright primary colours and bulky silhouettes, the new baseball jacket is made of thin nylon or leather and is best worn in black, charcoal or a cool shade of grey with the sleeves partly pushed up.

Without a doubt one of the hottest trends in both men and women’s fashion this year is denim and denim shirts are absolutely everywhere. The beauty of the denim shirt is that it can be worn in many different ways; buttoned up with a tie and cotton jacket; worn under a cardigan; with contrasting jeans à la David Beckham; or unbuttoned over a white vest (a particularly hot look for summer). Another important denim as the weather gets warmer will be upturned cuffs on jeans. Wear these with no socks and boat shoes in absolutely any colour for a really on-trend summer look.

As the weather gets colder this autumn there is no sign that the popularity of cardigans will wane, so wear them over plaid shirts, denim shirts, or polo shirts. Team these with thick horn-rimmed glasses, a chunky-knit scarf and well-groomed beard for the most stylish of winter looks. The tanned leather satchel is also set to be a popular winter accessory this autumn and winter, so channel professor chic as the weather gets colder and you will not go far wrong.
